...Oh my goodness!! I'm so glad you're okay!

Ps. I ALWAYS use my turn signals. Even when no one is behind. YOU NEVER KNOWAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30116358493936270.post-59974760370803479682012-07-06T01:28:58.958-05:002012-07-06T01:28:58.958-05:00I'm glad you're safe, and you left with mi...I'm glad you're safe, and you left with minor bruises/cuts! That had to be a life-flashing-before-you moment for sure. I completely agree that it's important for people to use turn signals both on the highway and definitely at intersections as it's an accident waiting to happen, whether it be a pedestrian getting hit crossing the street, the car behind, or in your case a bicyclist. However, as a biker myself who bikes everywhere and to all my college classes (regardless of the weather be it rain or snow) you have to remember that you technically have the same rights as a car. This means that you really shouldn't be passing cars on the shoulder without taking in the fact that you risk them not noticing you in their blind spot. The reason many bikers get into accidents (not saying this in your case since the person didn't have their signal on, just remember you're taking a risk when passing cars on the shoulder) is because they don't follow the rules of the road. I can't count how many times fellow bicyclist simply coast right through stop signs without even breaking or checking. The majority of instances of bikers get into accidents with cars is by passing cars on the shoulder or not obeying stop signs at intersections (meaning the bikers are putting themselves at risk). Now, I'm not at all accusing you of doing this on your bike when you're out riding, I just want to make sure you realize that every time you get on a bicycle it's important to know the risks involved and to treat it like driving a car. If you choose to pass on the shoulder, run stop signs, or do anything else you wouldn't do while driving a car you're taking risks. I'll admit that I occasionally roll through stop signs when I'm out biking, but not before I check the intersection and break down to a slow speed to make sure there's no cars coming. I'm just glad you're alright and well! I don't mean to get all wordy, especially since this is a serious topic and I really should only be glad you're alright. I just feel most bicyclist need to understand that they don't own the road and need to pay attention to their surroundings. The last time I got into an accident (not involving a car) I wasn't wearing a helmet and I flew over the handle bars head first. Luckily I caught myself with my hands, but ever since that incident I always wear a helmet. Those really do save lives. Anyways, I hope you're enjoying the summer, and stay out of trouble now! Again, sorry for the rant.

~ B-RizAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
